Mari teman-teman, yang Sabtu ini kurang hiburan di rumah, awal bulan saat yang tepat untuk beli-beli mainan atau barang kerajinan tangan dan lihat film-film animasi keren. Ada cosplay-nya juga dari KostuMasa. Acaranya dibagi di dua venue, untuk Pasar Hellofest lokasinya di Kartika Expo, Balai Kartini (masuk dari arah Jl. Denpasar). Untuk nonton cosplay KostuMasa dan film animasinya, di gedung yang biasa dipakai buat pesta pernikahan di bagian depan. Mikisi Curiosities Etc. ada di Pasar Hellofest booth A-24. Selain Mikisi, ada beberapa teman kami juga lho, misalnya Vantiani & Friends (ada Miss Shalimma juga lho) dan Apanamanya.

Kami punya banyak barang baru yang akan diupload previewnya di blog Mikisi esok hari (Jumat, 3 Februari 2011). Dari pengalaman tahun lalu (Hellofest 7), sebetulnya Pasar Hellofest ini seperti ajang preview barang dagangan baru Mikisi. Biasanya karena terlalu senang, kami suka kelupaan untuk foto-fotoin barangnya. Tahun ini kami mau menghilangkan kebiasaan jelek itu. Hehehhe.

Be a cyclist is somehow a bit overrated now. Though I'm not riding my small bike, Coro, to commute everywhere, but still I'm getting emotional with beautiful video about people on a bike. This Holstee Manifesto: Lifecycle Video (via swissmiss) reminds me of how hard I am trying to please everybody, to understand their circumstances, not to easily snapped at them, or simply blame them for their music taste (it's so hard not to do it, worst taste in music is irreparable). I should tell myself I shouldn't do that all the time. Blame it on watermelon ring.

I always trust my gut to try something that I really want. I know there's some local brands who got similar product, but I don't feel like I'm going to buy it. Like most of people who visit a craft booth and suddenly inspired to do the same(but they didn't make it at home eventually), I encouraged myself to do my own camo-jeans skinhead style or bleachers. Only with two caps of undiluted bleach (I used Bayclin) and toothbrush. Splattered them arbitrarily. Leave it a bit longer if you want the splats turn white.

Thanks to Shalimma, who kept repeatedly do the galaxy fashion spread during office hours. Ha! We both easily tempted. Her with my daily drawings and I with her galaxy fondness.

I realized I hardly post anything new on the blog. I just went through an ever changing experience.

I'm not sure if I'm still the same person or not. How I wish I could tell you anything I knew, just like a NatGeo reporter or any traveller, who briefly describe, take pictures and clearly tell stories about what they ate or exotic places they have been to.

I am sorry, I couldn't do that, but I would be very delightful to share what I really feel during these hiatus months. Don't wait for it, it will appear somehow.

Jules found this at the toy store, after I talked continuously about another BMX toy we found and it's so pricey. He said it's ridiculous for a plastic toy, he'd bought it if it was a die-cast like tomica.
Then he found this baby, which also comes in very seductive red and waaaaaayyy cheaper than the cranky plastic. The good news is: it's a die-cast.

I've tried few times to play some trick, can you imagine that it has real-working brake if you press down the button on the handle bar and seat? or a real-working crank and 360 degrees spinning front? It's beyond expectation. Imagine Tech Deck fingerboard, but in a shape of bike.

Back to the root, I'm listening to be-bop and other classic jazz pieces for weeks. Now I missed them so much and they still sounds good after all. It's not a post jazz festival syndrome whatsoever, I've never went to a jazz festival. Not a single one.

Today, I read the Jakarta Post, "Legendary jazz drummer Joe Morello dies at 82". I wonder who Joe Morello was and continued reading. Unsatisfied, I was off with "in Google we trust". Oh wow, discovered that he played in The Dave Brubeck Quartet and famous for his drum solo in "Take Five". My oh my, Take Five is somehow like one of the overplayed song I've ever known in my entire life. In the TV commercials, TV shows intro, radio shows, ringtones, anywhere, you name it!

I'm drowned in this marvelous quartet today. As a band, they hardly stuck with the same band members, but this line-up consist of Dave Brubeck himself (on piano), Paul Desmond (alto saxophone), Eugene Wright (later on, he's known under the name Gene Wright. on double bass) and Joe Morello (drums), stuck together for 9 years (1958-1967). I never realized that Joe Morello was the one who played the famous drum part in "Take Five". They got many beautiful pieces (and remakes) that still make my heart swooned, such as Blue Rondo a la Turk, Unsquare Dance, It's a Raggy Waltz or even Stardust and Take the "A" Train.

Morello recorded more than 60 albums with the quartet. Besides the famous Take Five, Morello also soloed using only his drumsticks on Unsquare Dance. After he's been disbanded from the quartet, he focused on composing extended orchestral and choral works. He's more into teaching and writing instructional books, meanwhile appeared occasionally in guest solo performances or with his own New York-based band.

The idea of cargo bikes never failed me. Just like this classic Fongers bike. As comparison, electra bike got the newer interpretation of vintage cargo bike. I think it's more American vintage, rather than European. For this series, I'd prefer Fongers'.

As a law-abiding commuter train passenger (yes, I suck :p), I often bought "Monatskarte" (wie sagt man's auf Englisch?) for economical reason and avoiding buying ticket last minute. Once a friend borrowed my card and he put it inside his wallet. Man, oh dear man, I forgot they always put their wallet in the back pocket of trousers. Then I got it back, tattered.

Materials : mikisi's notebook cover failure (canvas)

Tools : Sewing machine, crusty card case (to make the pattern), used paper (to draw your pattern), plastic, UHU glue (or any clear multipurpose glue)

How-to :

1. Create the pattern based by the crusty card case

2. Then trace it to the fabric (mine is canvas)

3. Glue the plastic to the fabric and sew carefully

4. Remember not to sew all four sides, keep one side free. (it happened to me, then I had to cut it open again)

Result : A new card case to be proudly flashed to the controller each time they asked "ticket, please" and happiness.

Now playing: radio playlist (mostly Britpop revival, Oasis, Suede etc. reminds me of the euphoria I really enjoyed in 1995)

Apparently it evokes my drawing senses (after a long, heavy sigh to best friends about losing the ability & chances). I drew series of tea cups, teaspoon, kettle, etc. I'm in the mood for tea time. Beberapa minggu lalu tempat kerja saya pindah ke lokasi yang baru dan di tempat yang baru ini saya memilih meja yang dekat dengan jendela. Full tujuh matahari kalau siang. Ternyata tempat baru membuat saya semangat menggambar (setelah beberapa hari frustasi dan takut kehilangan kemampuan menggambar dan kesempatan-kesempatan ciamik). Saya menggambar banyak sekali cangkir, sendok, teko dan kawan-kawan. Mari minum teh, pakai gula satu sendok kecil dan susu manasuka. Ini hanya satu dari sekian gambar yang akan saya lansir untuk Mikisi Curiosities Etc. tahun depan.

Recently in love with screen print. Made new limited art prints on coffee stained paper. Been a very good friend of screen stripper, I met and smell 'em every morning. Hope you're okay, dear lung.

Sedang keranjingan menyablon, hampir setiap hari percobaan gagal dan coba lagi. Mencuci screen adalah bagian tersulit, lebih sulit daripada membuat film dan menggesut rubber. M3 dan Seritrip adalah sahabat baik saya setiap pagi, disertai bunyi "ngik ngik ngik" Kata bapak saya, sekarang saya punya anjing peliharaan kecil di kamar mandi.
